    Room: Lakewood Center

Have you ever wondered how Buddhism made its way to Tibet? This series of classes in five parts explores the lives of five major founding teachers of Tibetan Buddhism and will focus on their spiritual journeys leading toward becoming fully awake and liberated practitioners. These five teachers are: Tilopa, Naropa, Marpa, Milarepa, and Gampopa. Attend this series of classes to find out more about these masters of spiritual accomplishment who embodied the wisdom that has been brought forward to the world over the past thousand years.  The dates of the classes will be: 1/23, 2/20, 3/19, 4/16, and 5/21 and take place from 8:00-8:30 pm after regular open meditation.

This class explores the life of the second “founding teacher” in the Tibetan Buddhist lineage. Naropa, a learned man of worldly studies, eventually discovered the Buddhist teachings, and his heart became devoted to them. He eventually underwent many years of toil and perseverance on the Buddhist path. Naropa’s first major calling was finding his guru Tilopa–the fully realized teacher discussed in the first class in this series. This class will discuss the trials and obstacles that Naropa endured under Tilopa’s guidance, culminating in a very direct, abrupt, and powerful awakening!
